Schrader Pacific

For more than 165 years, Schrader Pacific, the global leader in the design and manufacture of valve and mechanical system components.

In 1844 one of our first inventions was the world-renowned Schrader Pacific pneumatic tire valve–the very same valve that is used today on every motor vehicle in the world.

In addition to our work with leading OEMs in the automotive sector, we deliver customer-driven innovation to a diverse range of industries and applications–from industrial production, to off-road/heavy-duty equipment, to aerospace & oil and gas–delivering valve solutions that protect and perform.

Don’t settle for anything else, ask for the original Schrader!

High Pressure Valves

Schrader Pacific High-Pressure Valves are constructed of stainless-steel bodies for use in high-pressure air-charged units such as shock absorber struts, hydraulic pressure accumulators (798i), surge cylinders, and pneumatic and hydraulic systems. Most of these valves have a special feature that warns of unreleased air pressure when the valve is being separated from the outlet. These valves have ½”-20 U.N.F.-3A threads for connection to the container.

Schrader Pacific High-Pressure Connectors are available in multiple configurations, and handle air pressures up to 15,000 psi. Several air line connection sizes are available. Many of these valves also include a depressor pin that can open the valve before filling, and allow it to close before disengaging the connector, the 556 “air chuck” is the connector for you if limited on height.

Valve Cores

Schrader Pacific offers valve cores in a variety of sizes to meet the unique requirements for system access and flow rates. For years Schrader Pacific has provided a variety of seal materials for the wide range of standard fluid systems, and also offers plenty of options for new system applications.

For refrigerant systems, Schrader Pacific offers a variety of seal materials for compatibility with the specific refrigerant and refrigerant oils in each system. At Schrader Pacific, we test our valve cores in a range of refrigerants and refrigerant oils, and have found that certain POE and PVE refrigerant oils are not compatible with some seal materials. Be sure to contact your local Schrader Pacific representative to discuss the refrigerant oil in your application, so that we can make sure the seal material is fully compatible.

For automotive refrigerants, Schrader Pacific recommends using a standard valve core only on the-low pressure side only, and the larger JRA, 8mm, or 10mm core on the high-pressure side.

Couplers & Plugs

Quick-disconnect couplers are the fastest, easiest, and most reliable means of joining pneumatic and fluid transfer lines. All quick-disconnect couplers work on the same principles:

Hardened balls or pins engage a groove in the coupler plug to hold it securely against a soft seal, while permitting the assembly to swivel to avoid kinking or twisting the hose.

A sliding sleeve retracts to release the locking balls so the plug can be inserted or removed. The sleeve automatically returns to its locked position when released.

An automatic shutoff valve in the coupler seals instantly upon uncoupling, eliminating the need for a separate shutoff.

Tire Valve Extensions

Tire valve extensions are made in various styles to fit all types of standard tire valves. They are used to facilitate air service where wheel, rim, brake and other mounting conditions prevent ready access to the valve. They extend the valve mouth to the desired position for inflating, gauging, and deflating operations. They do not contain an air sealing valve core. A special plunger pin called an extension core contacts the valve core in the standard valve. The extensions fit the regular cap (.302”-32) threads at the mouth of the valve. A washer acts as a seal between the valve mouth and then extension.

The man behind the name

August Schrader (1807–1894) was a German-Americanimmigrant who had a shop dealing in rubber products in Manhattan, New York City, United States.[1] His original shop was located at 115 John Street. In 1845, he began supplying fittings and valves for rubber products made by the Goodyear Brothers, including air pillows and life preservers. He also made daguerreotype apparatus. Then he went into partnership with Christian Baecher, a brass turner and finisher.

After watching divers at work, Schrader sought to improve diving helmets. In 1849, he created a new copper helmet. Later, his interest in diving led to him to design an air pump.

Around 1890, after reports of Englishcyclists’ success using pneumatictires, August Schrader saw the need for a bicycle tire valve. By 1891 he had produced the Schrader valve, which was his most popular invention and is used today. August’s son, George, is generally credited with the experimental work that resulted in the valve’s creation.

In 1893, Schrader patented the tire valve cap. Soon after, tire valves for automobiles were introduced.
